๐Ÿฅฉ Beef and Broccoli Easy Recipe Better Than Takeout uses tender flank steak and crisp fresh broccoli for a nutritious and satisfying meal.
๐Ÿš This quick and flavorful stir-fry is an excellent homemade alternative that comes together in just 30 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb flank steak thinly sliced into bite-sized strips

2 Tbsp vegetable oil divided

1 lb fresh broccoli cut into 6 cups of florets

2 tsp sesame seeds optional garnish

1 tsp fresh ginger grated

2 tsp garlic grated

1/2 cup hot water

6 Tbsp soy sauce or gluten-free tamari

3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar

1 1/2 Tbsp corn starch

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 Tbsp water optional to thin sauce

Instructions

1-Step 1: Preparation is Key Begin by cooking your white rice according to package directions. While the rice is cooking, place the flank steak in the freezer for 30 minutes to facilitate easier slicing. Once slightly firm, remove and thinly slice the beef against the grain into bite-sized strips. This technique ensures incredibly tender beef in the final dish.

2-Step 2: Creating the Flavorful Sauce In a medium bowl, whisk together all stir fry sauce ingredients (1 tsp fresh ginger, grated; 2 tsp garlic, grated; 1/2 cup hot water; 6 Tbsp soy sauce or gluten-free tamari; 3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar; 1 1/2 Tbsp corn starch; 1/4 tsp black pepper) until the sugar completely dissolves and no lumps remain. This well-balanced sauce is what makes this recipe truly special!

3-Step 3: Cooking the Broccoli Heat 1 Tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the broccoli florets and sautรฉ for 4-5 minutes until they turn bright green and reach a crisp-tender texture. Be careful not to overcook at this stage! Remove the broccoli from the pan and set it aside on a plate.

4-Step 4: Searing the Beef Increase the skillet heat to high. Add the remaining 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil. Carefully arrange the beef strips in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for approximately 2 minutes per side until cooked through and nicely browned. Proper searing locks in the juices and creates those desirable caramelized flavors.

5-Step 5: Bringing It All Together Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the prepared stir fry sauce into the skillet with the beef. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring continuously, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef beautifully. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add the optional 2 Tbsp of water to reach your desired consistency.

6-Step 6: Finishing and Serving Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet and stir well to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional minute to ensure everything is heated through. Serve immediately over the cooked white rice, garnished with sesame seeds if desired. The contrast between the tender beef, crisp-tender broccoli, and flavorful sauce is absolutely delicious!
