๐Ÿฅ˜ Beef Paprikash offers a rich and comforting meal with tender beef and a creamy, flavorful sauce perfect for cooler weather.
๐ŸŒถ With authentic Hungarian paprika and simple ingredients, this dish captures traditional seasoning in a hearty stew.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

– 2 lb beef chuck roast, cubed into 1-2 inch pieces

– Salt and pepper (to taste)

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (can substitute with cassava flour for gluten-free, Paleo, and Whole30 compatibility)

– 2 tablespoons olive oil (can substitute with avocado oil or vegetable oil)

– 1 large onion, diced (yellow preferred, but white or red onions can be used)

– 1 red bell pepper, finely diced

– 1 green bell pepper, finely diced

– 2 cloves garlic, minced (fresh recommended)

– 3 tablespoons sweet Hungarian paprika (consider substituting 1 tablespoon with hot paprika for added spice)

– ยฝ teaspoon dried oregano

– ยฝ teaspoon caraway seeds, lightly crushed (optional)

– 15-ounce can crushed tomatoes

– 2 cups beef broth

– 1 bay leaf

Instructions

1-First Step: Prep and Season Start by seasoning the beef cubes with salt, pepper, and flour. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high to high heat, then brown the beef in batches until seared on each side. Remove and set aside, as per the directions.

2-Second Step: Build the Base Add more oil if needed and reduce heat to medium. Cook the diced onion until softened, about 3-5 minutes, then add the diced red and green bell peppers and minced garlic, cooking for 1-2 minutes.

3-Third Step: Add Flavors and Simmer Stir in the paprika, oregano, and caraway seeds to coat the vegetables. Increase heat to medium-high or high, and deglaze the pot with the crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Add the bay leaf and return the browned beef and its juices to the pot.

4-Fourth Step: Cook to Perfection Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour. Uncover, stir, and continue cooking on medium-low for another hour until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally to avoid scorching.
