πŸ₯¬ Preserve the freshness and nutrients of kale with quick freezing techniques that keep it ready for any recipe.
❄️ Freezing kale is a great way to reduce waste and enjoy healthy greens year-round with minimal prep.

  • Total Time: 15-30 minutes plus optional pre-freeze
  • Yield: Varies based on quantity packed

Ingredients

– 500g fresh kale Provides the rich leafy base packed with nutrients

– 2 tbsp olive oil Enhances flavor and aids in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins

– 3 cloves garlic, minced Adds aromatic depth and health-promoting compounds

– 1 tbsp lemon juice Offers a bright, fresh taste and helps preserve color

– Salt, to taste Balances and enhances all flavors

Instructions

1-First Steps: Cleaning and Chopping: Thoroughly wash and dry the kale leaves to remove dirt and excess moisture. This prepares them for even freezing and keeps everything fresh. Chop the kale into bite-sized pieces as mentioned earlier.

2-Blanching and Flavoring: Blanch the kale by boiling it for 2 minutes, then immediately submerge it in ice water. This step helps preserve the color and nutrients, making your freeze kale vibrant and healthy. Drain and pat dry the kale to remove any water that might cause ice crystals.

Toss the kale with 2 tbsp olive oil, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 tbsp lemon juice, and salt to taste. This infuses flavor before freezing, turning simple kale into something special. While freezing raw kale without steaming is often preferred for quicker preservation, blanching locks in goodness if you have time.

3-Freezing Process: For freezing, spread the kale out on a cookie sheet and pre-freeze for about 60 minutes to keep the leaves loose and prevent clumping. Then, place them into quart-sized freezer bags or airtight containers. Store the kale at 0Β°F (-18Β°C) or lower to keep it fresh.

Finally, transfer the frozen kale into bags, label with the date, and you’re set. This method means you can use it directly in cooked dishes like smoothies, soups, stews, or stir-fries without thawing. Just remember to avoid using frozen kale in salads for the best results.
