๐Ÿจ Experience the ultimate Italian frozen dessert with creamy vanilla ice cream, amaretto-soaked cherry surprises, and crunchy chocolate coating – a show-stopping treat perfect for special occasions
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Master the art of authentic Italian gelato with this elegant tartufo recipe that combines multiple textures and flavors in one impressive dessert that will wow your guests

  • Total Time: 6 hours 34 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

– 5-6 chocolate waffle cones or chocolate cookies, crushed into fine crumbs

– 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream

– 8 maraschino cherries soaked in amaretto liqueur for at least 4 hours

– 12 ounces (approximately 355 ml) of warm caramel sauce

– 1/3 cup of chopped walnuts

Instructions

1-First, crush the 5-6 chocolate waffle cones or cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by hand for that perfect coating.

2-Next, soak the 8 maraschino cherries in amaretto liqueur for at least 4 hours to let the flavors meld, which is a key part of the dessert’s charm.

3-Then, scoop out 8 balls of vanilla ice cream and carve a small hole in each one to insert a soaked cherry.

4-Smoothly cover the hole to form neat balls, and roll them in the chocolate crumbs until fully coated.

5-Place these on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for about 4 hours or until firm, giving you a total prep time of around 2 hours and 34 minutes plus freezing.

6-Once frozen, serve the tartufi on plates with a spoonful of the 12 ounces of warm caramel sauce, drizzle extra caramel on top, and sprinkle with the 1/3 cup of chopped walnuts for added crunch.

Notes

๐Ÿ’ Soak the cherries in amaretto for at least 4 hours, but overnight soaking creates an even more intense flavor that pairs perfectly with the vanilla ice cream
๐ŸงŠ Work quickly when assembling the tartufi and keep everything cold – warm hands or room temperature ice cream will make the process difficult and affect the final texture
๐Ÿฅ„ For the best presentation, use warm caramel sauce just before serving – the contrast between the warm sauce and cold ice cream creates an incredible dining experience
