Ingredients
– 12 ounces kielbasa or smoked sausage
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– ΒΌ cup salted butter
– 1 large onion
– Β½ head green cabbage
– 1 clove garlic
– β cup frozen peas
– 8 ounces egg noodles
– Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
1-Cook the egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside. This step can be done while you prepare the other ingredients to save time.
2-In a large saucepan or skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until lightly browned, which should take about 5-7 minutes. The goal is to get some nice color on the sausage to develop flavor.
3-Add aromatics to the pan with the sausage. Pour in the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil, the butter, and the diced onion. Cook until the onion has softened, about 5 minutes. The combination of oil and butter gives the dish a richness thatβs absolutely wonderful.
4-Incorporate the cabbage and garlic. Add the chopped cabbage and minced garlic to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 10-15 minutes. During this time, the cabbage will wilt down significantly, becoming sweet and tender.
5-Combine all ingredients. Stir in the frozen peas, the cooked and drained egg noodles, and salt and pepper to taste. The peas will brighten up the dish with their sweet flavor and vibrant color.
6-Final heating and seasoning. Continue cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until everything is heated through. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.
