– 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt

– 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

– 4 tablespoons of packed brown sugar for the topping

– 4 tablespoons of white sugar for the topping

– 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for the topping

– 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg for the topping

– 2 tablespoons of cold butter for the topping

Instructions

1-Getting started with this recipe is straightforward and fun, ideal for anyone new to baking. Begin by whisking together the main ingredients in a large bowl to create a smooth custard mixture. This step ensures the flavors blend well before soaking into the bread.

2-Next, grease a 9ร—13-inch baking dish with 2 to 3 tablespoons of softened butter to prevent sticking. Add the 1-pound loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes, and pour the egg mixture over it, tossing gently to coat everything evenly. Cover and refrigerate overnight for at least 8 hours to let the bread absorb the flavors fully.

3-In the morning, prepare the topping by mixing 4 tablespoons each of packed brown sugar and white sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, then cut in 2 tablespoons of cold butter until crumbly. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC), sprinkle the topping over the casserole, and bake for 40 to 50 minutes until golden and set. Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving with options like melted butter, maple syrup, powdered sugar, berries, or whipped cream.
