🍑 Enjoy a warm and comforting peach cobbler that’s easy to make and perfect for any season.
🍨 This Southern style dessert offers a delightful blend of sweet peaches and a tender, buttery crust that’s sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

5 peaches, cored and sliced (about 4 cups) or 600-700 g canned peaches

3/4 cup (150 g) sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons (85 g) butter

1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour

1 cup (200 g) milk

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Step One: Prepare the Peach Filling: The magic begins with preparing our luscious peach filling. Start by taking your 5 fresh peaches, coring and slicing them to yield about 4 cups of fruit. If you’re using canned peaches (about 600-700 g), you can skip the slicing step. Place these peaches in a saucepan along with 3/4 cup of sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Fresh peach pro tip: If using fresh peaches, you can easily peel them by blanching in boiling water for 30 seconds, then transferring to ice water. The skins will slip right off, making your prep so much easier!

Cook this mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar completely dissolves and the peaches begin to release their delicious juices. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Once done, remove the saucepan from heat and set aside. The beautiful aroma already starting to fill your kitchen is just a preview of the wonderful treat to come!

Step Two: Prepare Your Baking Dish: While your peach filling is cooling slightly, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take a 9×13-inch baking dish and place 6 tablespoons (85 g) of butter directly in it. Put the dish in the preheating oven for a few minutes until the butter is completely melted. Keep a close eye on it to prevent the butter from browning.

Once melted, carefully remove the hot dish from the oven. The melted butter will create a rich base for our cobbler and give the bottom a wonderfully crispy texture. This little trick makes all the difference in achieving that perfect golden crust we’re all after!

Step Three: Mix the Cobbler Batter: In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, the remaining sugar (if you haven’t used it all in the filling), 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt if you haven’t used it all already. Whisk these dry ingredients together until well combined.

Gradually stir in 1 cup of milk to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined be careful not to overmix! A few lumps in the batter are perfectly fine and actually desirable. Overmixing can lead to a tougher texture in your cobbler topping, so keep it light and gentle.

Step Four: Assemble Your Cobbler: Now comes the fun part assembling our perfect peach cobbler! Pour the batter you just made directly over the melted butter in your baking dish. Don’t worry if it doesn’t spread evenly; it will distribute itself as it bakes.

Next, spoon the prepared peach filling and its juices evenly over the batter. Don’t stir them together this layered technique is what creates the distinct cobbler texture with the fruit sinking down and the batter rising up as it bakes. Finally, sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon over the top for that warm, fragrant spice that complements the peaches so beautifully.

Step Five: Bake to Perfection: Place your assembled cobbler in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes at 350°F (175°C). Your kitchen will fill with the most amazing aromas as the cobbler bakes! You’ll know it’s done when the top is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.

Don’t be tempted to open the oven door too frequently while baking, as this can cause the temperature to fluctuate and affect the rising of your cobbler. If you’re unsure whether it’s done, you can insert a toothpick into the topping it should come out clean or with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.

Step Six: Serve and Enjoy!: Remove your perfect peach cobbler from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This gives it a chance to set up a bit and makes it easier to slice. Trust me, resisting the temptation to dig in immediately will be worth it!

For the ultimate indulgence, serve your cobbler warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream. The contrast between the warm, spicy peaches and cold, creamy ice cream is simply divine. Summer entertaining just reached a whole new level of deliciousness!
