๐Ÿ  Experience perfectly caramelized sweet potatoes with crispy edges and tender centers using this foolproof roasting method that brings out their natural sweetness
โœจ Transform simple sweet potatoes into a flavorful side dish that’s packed with nutrients and pairs perfectly with any meal, from weeknight dinners to holiday feasts

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

– 2 pounds sweet potatoes (about 3 large, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces)

– 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil

– 3/4 teaspoon salt (use less if using table salt)

– 1 tablespoon light brown sugar, firmly packed

– 2 pounds sweet potatoes (about 3 large, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces)

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– 3/4 teaspoon salt (use less if using table salt)

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 1/2 teaspoon ground chili powder

– 1/2 teaspoon paprika

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

1-Preheat your oven to 425ยฐF (218ยฐC) and prepare the sweet potatoes by peeling and cubing them into 1/2-inch pieces for uniform roasting.

2-Place the sweet potato cubes in a large bowl, then for the plain version, toss them with melted coconut oil, salt, and brown sugar. For the seasoned version, mix with olive oil, salt, pepper, chili powder, paprika, cumin, and garlic powder until evenly coated.

3-Spread the seasoned sweet potatoes in a single layer on a large sheet pan, making sure they don’t overlap to avoid steaming instead of roasting.

4-Roast in the preheated oven for 27 to 35 minutes, flipping every 10 to 15 minutes to ensure even cooking and caramelization.

5-Check for doneness by testing with a fork; the potatoes should be tender inside with a caramelized exterior. If needed, adjust based on your oven’s performance.

6-For dietary tweaks, consider switching spices like using rosemary instead of paprika for a fresh twist, or reduce oil for a lighter meal.

7-Once done, remove from the oven, let them cool slightly, and serve as a flavorful side dish that complements many meals.

Notes

๐Ÿ  Use a large sheet pan and don’t overcrowd the potatoes – this allows them to roast instead of steam, creating those crispy edges everyone loves
๐ŸŒŸ Cut the sweet potatoes into uniform 1/2-inch pieces – this ensures they cook evenly and some pieces don’t burn while others remain undercooked
โฐ Flip the potatoes every 10-15 minutes for even caramelization – this simple step makes all the difference in achieving that perfect golden-brown color and texture
