Ingredients

– 3 cups shredded and diced cooked chicken

– 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese (1 cup for filling, 1 cup for topping)

– Β½ teaspoon garlic powder

– Β½ teaspoon salt

– Β½ teaspoon ground black pepper

– 3 tablespoons butter

– 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 2 cups chicken broth (low/no sodium allowed)

– 1 cup sour cream

– 2 ounces cream cheese (optional)

– 4-ounce can diced green chiles, undrained

– 12 taco-size flour tortillas (corn tortillas may be substituted)

– Chopped fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1-Preheat oven to 350Β°F. Grease a 9Γ—13-inch baking dish.

2-In a bowl, mix chicken, 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

3-In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

4-Whisk in flour; cook 1 minute.

5-Gradually add broth, sour cream, cream cheese (if using), and green chiles.

6-Whisk until smooth and simmering.

7-Cut tortillas in half. Layer 8 halves in the baking dish.

8-Spread β…“ of chicken mixture over tortillas, then drizzle with β…“ of sauce.

9-Repeat layering twice (tortillas, chicken, sauce).

10-Top with remaining 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese.

11-Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, until bubbly.

12-Broil on low briefly to brown top if desired.

14-Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
